The Wedding season is nearly upon us! Remember weddings are a happy… yet still a formal occasion… so here are a few thoughts to bear in mind, when choosing the perfect ensemble as a guest at a wedding.

Enquire about Dress Code
For any occasion… always remember it’s better to be overdressed than too casual. Make sure to enquire regarding the dress code… the time of the wedding on the invitation should suggest whether the event will be day or evening and with that you should dress accordingly. Remembering that cocktail dresses can be deemed more appropriate for evening-wear.

It’s the Brides Day!
The majority of Brides will wear white… so this colour as a guest is off-limit’s… not to worry, there are many colours to choose from. You may wish to add a little black to your outfit… but all-over is a no, no… a wedding is a joyful occasion!

To Wear a Hat or Not?
It really depends on how formal the wedding is? Are the couple whose wedding you are attending fairly traditional? If the answer is yes then try a hat or fascinator… you certainly don’t want to feel out of place at the special occasion!

When selecting head-wear make sure it is of a neutral colour… to be able to wear again, as these accessories can be fairly expensive; or another option is to hire?

As a Mother-of-the-Bride you should definitely wear a hat and on that note hats should not be removed until the Mother-of-the-Bride has removed her head-wear.

Dress Appropriately
Demure, classic and sophisticated, should be the look to aim for. Avoid anything too revealing including plunging necklines, super short skirts and slinky fabrics. Underwear should be kept as undergarments, with a VPL (visible panty line) always a fashion faux! Also act appropriately, especially where drink is concerned, as weddings can be long days.

Suit your Style
When selecting an outfit, make sure it suits your body shape, features, face shape and colouring. Your choice in garments should also reflect your age, personality and lifestyle. Feel and be comfortable in whatever you wear, including your choice of heels, it may be a long day/night if your shoe attire is not practical!

Groom for Glamour
Waxing/shaving, nails manicured, hair maintained and make-up well applied, can make a big difference to your overall appearance. I really look forward to formal occasions such as weddings as it is a great time to look your best… though try not to test anything too dramatic before the big day; a trendsetting haircut or cosmetic look on a catwalk model may spell disaster for you. Always look polished and groomed but try not to go ‘Over-Styled… Overboard’?

Double Up
Perhaps Ms. Popular has a few weddings to attend? Why not wear your outfit again? By cleverly changing your accessories, you can suit your clothing to the occasion.
